Songwriting with Jim McCormick's Team

2011 Salon Lusher Summer Arts Intensive Fellows participate in a songwriting workshop with Jim McCormick. Native to New Orleans, Jim McCormick was raised by a merchant marine, one block from the Mississippi River levee in Algiers. He was influenced by New Orleans radio growing up, and listened to artists like Mac David, Sonny and Cher, Barbara Mandrell and Tom Jones. Having earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Georgetown University, he returned home to complete a Master of Fine Arts at the University of New Orleans. McCormick has established himself as a staple in the country music world, having his work performed by a slew of popular artists including Tim McGraw, Trace Adkins, Trisha Yearwood, Ronnie Milsap, Luke Bryan, Rodney Atkins, Julianne Hough, Anders Osborne, and Amanda Shaw, to name a few. He has also performed a number of major festivals including the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival; South By Southwest Music Conference; The Key West Songwriters Festival; Tin Pan South in Nashville; and the Zihuatanejo International Guitar Festival in Mexico. http://positivevibrationsfoundation.org/musicians/detail/11/Jim-McCormick Positive Vibrations Foundation is a non-profit private operating foundation formed exclusively for charitable and educational purposes as defined by IRS section 501(c)(3). Songwriting with Johnny Dilks' Team
03:30
2011 Salon Lusher Summer Arts Intensive Fellows participate in a songwriting workshop with Johnny Dilks. Johnny Dilks is certainly the brightest rising star in the world of western swing and honky tonk. A northern California native, Dilks and his band carry on the best traditions of Hank Williams, Bob Wills, Billy Jack Wills, the Louvin Brothers, and yodeler Kenny Roberts. Dilks is part of an explosion of retro musical acts emerging out of the west coast (including Big Sandy and his Fly-Rite Boys, Deke Dickerson, the Lucky Stars, Biller & Wakefield, and more). True to the western swing tradition, Dilks combines a wide range of musical influences into a style identifiable as western swing. He draws on Dixieland, Cajun, country, honky-tonk, and more, as did Bob Wills and the other titans of the genre. Dilks' band, the Visitacion Valley Boys, is comprised of Dilks (vocals and rhythm guitar), Brendan Ryan (double bass), Paul Wooton (lead guitar and harmony vocals), Billy Wilson (steel guitar), Brian Godchaux (fiddle, electric and acoustic mandolin, and harmony vocals), and drummers Pat Campbell and Ken Owen. http://www.rockabilly.net/johnnydilks/ Positive Vibrations Foundation is a non-profit private operating foundation formed exclusively for charitable and educational purposes as defined by IRS section 501(c)(3).
