Anders Osborne's "Won't Bow Down" benefiting Send Me A Friend

On December 16th, Send Me A Friend (SMAF), a project of Positive Vibrations Foundation, will celebrate its 2-year anniversary with “Won’t Bow Down,” a benefit concert at the Maple Leaf Bar featuring SMAF co-founder Anders Osborne along with an all-star Mardi Gras Indian ensemble including Big Chiefs Monk Boudreaux and Juan Pardo. For one afternoon, the legendary Maple Leaf Bar will transform into a sanctuary of healthy living and funky, spirit-driven music. The back bar of the “Leaf” will feature all alcohol-free beverages—craft mocktails, locally-brewed kombucha by Big Easy Bucha, and coffee provided by Crescent Crown Distributing and French Truck. VIP tickets include lunch by Jaques-Imo’s. The music will lean heavily on the classic 2002 recording from Monk and Anders, “Bury The Hatchet.”

“This is going to be a blast!” says Osborne, whose vision and personal experience have guided SMAF since its inception. “I get to play some of my favorite music with some of my favorite people at one of my favorite places at a favorable time of day!”

Send Me A Friend (www.sendmeafriend.org), launched two years ago with a simple concept: connecting musicians and creative professionals with “Friends” in long-term recovery from drug and alcohol addiction that provide support during the challenging early days of sobriety. Since then, SMAF has grown a network of thousands of “Friends,” helped many Creatives in early sobriety, developed a mobile APP, and hosted New Orleans-based “Lifeshops” with the Imagine Recovery facility Uptown.

As Send Me A Friend looks ahead to 2019, more “Lifeshops” at Imagine Recovery are in the works, including a collaboration with legendary MC5 guitarist Wayne Kramer, as well as a partnership with the New York City recovery center, The Freedom Institute.

As our country faces a growing addiction epidemic, SMAF is focusing its attention on the creative industries, where drug and alcohol addiction continues to rise, by focusing on the unique challenges that come with this line-of-work. This special afternoon gathering will celebrate our city’s creative community while offering help to those who need it.
