Their mission is to support newly-sober musicians and music industry professionals who are on the road to a new way of life by helping get them back to work again. When Anders Osborne started his Send Me A Friend Foundation last in 2016, he had a simple goal: he wanted musicians in recovery from substance addiction to continue working as musicians. Calling on his own experiences of returning to music clubs when he was newly sober, he began assembling a network where “friends” in different cities could look out for players who were returning to their old haunts or going back on the road. With Bill Taylor of the Trombone Shorty Foundation, and in partnership with the Positive Vibrations Foundation in New Orleans, Send Me A Friend now has a downloadable app to make the service more accessible to those who need to be connected. “We want to make it as painless as possible for people in need to reach out,” Osborne said. “The idea is to integrate it into management companies, promotion companies and festivals, so it’s part of the event’s initial setup. If you’re going on tour, we want you to have this outreach available to you.” sendmeafriend.org positivevibrations.org Anders Osborne: Between the potency of his richly detailed songwriting, his intensely emotional, soulful vocals and his piercing, expert guitar work, New Orleans’ Anders Osborne is a true musical treasure. He is among the most original and visionary musicians writing and performing today. Guitar Player calls him “the poet laureate of Louisiana’s fertile roots music scene.” New Orleans' Gambit Weekly has honored Osborne as the Entertainer Of The Year. OffBeat named him the Crescent City’s Best Guitarist for the third year in a row, and the Best Songwriter for the second straight year. Osborne also won Song Of The Year for his composition, Louisiana Gold. Osborne has earned hordes of new fans. He has toured virtually non-stop, either with his own band, as a solo artist, or as a guest with his countless musical admirers, including Toots and The Maytals, Stanton Moore, Derek Trucks, Warren Haynes, Keb Mo, The Grateful Dead’s Phil Lesh, Jackie Greene and Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe. He’s produced and played on critically acclaimed albums by Tab Benoit, Johnny Sansone and Mike Zito. A powerful live performer, the musician has won over fans through non-stop touring as well as a heralded collaboration with the North Mississippi Allstars & Southern Soul Assembly. Jambands.com said, "Osborne finds a striking balance of muscle and grace that allows for the smaller moments of quiet to be just as resounding as the sonic booms.” andersosborne.com Luther Dickinson: On Blues & Ballads (A Folksinger’s Songbook) Vol. I & II, Luther Dickinson finds his way forward by retracing his steps. This ambitious double album collects twenty-one tunes from throughout his life and career—songs he wrote with his rock & roll band the North Mississippi Allstars, songs he learned from friends and family, songs passed down to him by his heroes and mentors, songs that have lived in the American subconscious for decades now—and pares them down to their irreducible elements. Voice, guitar, drums. Here and there some blues fife or Beale Street piano. The performances on the record itself are some of his most excitable and energetic, with the bounce and rumble of early blues and rock; the arrangements transcribed in the illustrated songbook (which accompanies the vinyl edition of the album) reveal the intricate and imaginative rhythms and melodies that underpin all of Luther’s compositions. “The idea,” he says, “was to re-record everything very stripped down—very acoustic and honest and folky—to accompany the songbook.” As the subtitle suggests, this is only the beginning of what promises to be a multi-volume undertaking. lutherdickinson.com John Bukaty Studio / Gallery: John Bukaty sees life, and the special events it's made of, in distinct moments. He sees things one frame at a time. Whether it's the enjoyable chaos of a music festival, the intense competition of a college basketball game, or a tender moment at a family event, Bukaty sees them all in portraits. And like a distortion pedal that adds fuzziness and growl to a guitar, Bukaty translates these singular sights onto a canvas using a self-taught method of blurred lines and vibrant colors. johnbukaty.com Special thanks to Christina Shiebler and her firm Asset Communications for the beautiful poster!
